When last we heard, The Coen Brothers were mulling over a Hollywood-set period piece comedy about the staging of an Ancient Rome epic in the 1920s and the matinee film idol putting the film together. Well it appears that plans for the picture are firming up, as Deadline confirms that Hail Caesar is indeed coming together as the next film from brothers Joel and Ethan Coen. However, new plot details reveal a significantly different storyline than the one we heard about previously, as this new iteration takes place in the 1950s and revolves around a “fixer”. coen-brothers-hail-caesarPer Deadline, the story of Hail Caesar revolves around a fixer in 1950s Hollywood who works for the studios to protect the stars of the day. In the studio system, it was not uncommon for the big studios to hire private detectives to maintain the squeaky clean image of their stars, since actors back then were often under contract to specific studios as well as “national treasures”. When the Coens previously described the film as the 1920s-set version, George Clooney was attached to star. It’s unclear if that will be the case in this new version, and whether their plan to tell a story about “the movie business and life and religion and faith” remains.

Regardless, I’m highly enthused by the prospect of the Coen Brothers tackling another Hollywood studio system-set comedy, since Barton Fink resulted in a masterful take on the period. The duo aren’t known for retreading old territory, though, so we can safely assume that Hail Caesar will be quite different. Hopefully we hear more about the project soon

Der erfolgreiche deutsche Blockbuster-Regisseur Roland Emmerich hat ein neues Filmprojekt gefunden. So wird er schon bald für Warner Bros. Pictures und MGM seinen Kinohit Stargate mit Kurt Russel und James Spader wieder zum Leben erwecken. Geplant ist eine dreiteilige Neuauflage des Science-Fiction-Abenteuers aus dem Jahr 1994, dem bereits einige TV-Serien wie "Stargate – Kommando SG-1", "Stargate Atlantis" und "Stargate Universe" folgten.

Der Originalfilm "Stargate" spielt in Cairo 1928. Bei Ausgrabungen wird unter dem Schlussstein einer Pyramide ein rätselhaftes Gebilde gefunden. Niemand ahnt, welche Bedeutung es haben könnte, nur eins steht fest: Es stammt nicht von der Erde. Ein halbes Jahrhundert später löst der junge Ägyptologe Daniel Jackson (James Spader) das Geheimnis dieses ungewöhnlichen Fundes. Es handelt sich um ein Tor zu den Sternen, vor undenklichen Zeiten hinterlassen von einer Fremden Rasse. Zusammen mit O`Neil (Kurt Russel) und seinem Trupp Marines betritt Daniel das Tor, und beginnt eine Reise, die ihn über die Abgründe des Universums hinweg auf eine fremde Welt bringt – eine Welt, die unterjocht wird von den fleischgewordenen bösartigen Göttern des alten Ägyptens...

Bereits vor einigen Jahren sprachen sich der Regisseur Emmerich und sein Drehbuchautor und Produzent Dean Devlin für das geplante Reboot aus. Da Emmerichs derzeitige Arbeit an einer Fortsetzung seines Kinohits "Independence Day" Formen annimmt - der deutsche Kinostart ist für den 30. Juni 2016 geplant - hat nun auch das Filmstudio grünes Licht für eine neue "Stargate"-Trilogie gegeben. Doch bis wir das Ergebnis auf der großen Leinwand sehen können, dauert es sicherlich noch eine ganze Weile. Bisher ist weder eine Handlung noch eine Besetzung bekannt.

Der Anderson dagegen hat anscheinend die Lust an Essen und Botox entdeckt.
