A thread for any “Indy 5” dialogue found from wherever possible (making-of videos, being on-set, leaked script pages, etc.) If anyone has any tidbits from anywhere, please post them here!
This is a very long post for such a small amount of words but please read to the bottom for all the details, observations & conclusions. There is meat to chew on. 🥩:D
What I’ve found comes from the shoot in Cefalù during a scene with the blue van speeding off around a corner, racing up a street and then turning another corner. Harrison couldn’t be seen but could be heard yelling, which I didn’t notice at first until my new buddy, Juergen, pointed it out. At that time, it was impossible for us to make out the words because of all the background noise (crowd, crew, traffic, etc.) but, thanks to all of my camera footage, I was able to (partially) decipher what was being said.
They did the scene 26 times (!), with the dialogue varying from one take to another, so here are the closest approximations of what the words sound like to me (sometimes spelled phonetically & sometimes in Italian). Those written in bold are 99.999999% positive (with observational notes in italics):
Take 3
A commotion can be heard just before the van speeds away:
FEMALE VOICE (very distant): “No! No! (Unintelligible)! Cyrus!” ***
As the van speeds around the corner:
MALE VOICE: “Hymie!”
Then, 11 seconds later, after the van completely disappears around the 2nd corner,..
INDY: “Sonja! He got kidnapped!”
***This could be an argument coming from a nearby apartment but a woman can be heard yelling something that sounds like, “Cyrus”.
Take 5
As the van speeds around the corner:
INDY: “Hynix!” (or “Hydix!” or “Pyrix!”…or maybe even “Pirates!”?)

In a couple of takes (12 & 13), there seems to be a bit more afterwards but I can’t figure it out (yet).
Sometimes Harrison yelled with urgency, alarmed & angry while, in others, he sounded more dismayed & defeated. Note the exclamation points (!) in various takes. Which version will they choose for the final film?
My Italian is too basic to know exactly what is being said but I’m confident that the Italian shouting is supposed to be part of the movie (and not an announcement from a crew member) because it comes after the director calls “Action!”. A man is definitely yelling, “Macchina (something)!” and that is the general term for a car, even though it also means, “machine”. To me, it seems to be someone warning people down the street of a wild driver. If it IS a crew member, they’ll have to edit that out.
Now for the meaty stuff! 🥩 It’s a pretty, darned, sure thing that Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character will be named, Sonja / Sonia (and am hoping it’s spelled, “Sonja”, because of a close friend of mine). I sent some clips to Juergen and he agrees with my analysis. It's clear enough in Take 8 so, on a sportsman's bet, I say that this will be it!
For what I assume is the kid’s name, it sounds something like “Hynix”. At first, I thought it was “Cyrus” because of the similarity to Syracuse (where part of story will take place) and then figured that was just wishful thinking on my part. It sounds more like “Hymie” and, the more I listen, the more it seems to end with an “ix / icks / ex / ecks” so it seems to be something close to, “Hynix”. Of course, it might not be the kid’s name, at all, and could be something else but we know the kid will be kidnapped and yelling out his name while the van speeds away is the most logical thing. Whatever it is, it’s a mystery for now! 🧐🔎
Anyway, I’ll be posting some video in the near future so you’ll get to listen for yourselves. :hat:
