The long-spoken-of sequel Bad Boys for Life is finally happening, according to Deadline. Sony Pictures is reportedly in talks with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct the film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The film is reportedly looking at an August production start. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce the film. The newest draft of the script for Bad Boys for Life was written by Chris Bremner. The film has been talked about for years, though it was moved off of Sony’s schedule. El Arbi and Fallah wrote and directed Black, a story about organized crime in Belgium. They recently directed a number of episodes, including the pilot, for the FX series Snowfall. They are currently attached to Beverly Hills Cop 4. Bad Boys II was released in theaters in 2003, a sequel to the 1995 original film, which went on to gross $273 million worldwide (the first film earned $141 million). It starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence plus Jordi Mollà, Peter Stormare, Theresa Randle and Joe Pantoliano. In addition to the film, NBC is casting for their upcoming untitled Bad Boys spinoff TV series. The show stars Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, reprising her role from Bad Boys II. Ernie Hudson was recently cast in the show, and he’ll play Joseph Burnett, Syd’s father. In the series, Burnett has left the DEA and now has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna, a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in this action-packed, character-driven procedural. The as-yet-untitled show is written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Bad Boys movies, and Doug Belgrad, who worked on the franchise as well, will executive produce the series with Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed. The Cloverfield Paradox, aka Cloverfield 3, caught everyone off-guard when it unexpectedly dropped onto Netflix this week. If you thought that might be the future of all Cloverfield films, think again. Paramount still plans to release Cloverfield 4, currently titled Overlord, in theaters. Don’t give up on the Cloverfield franchise just yet, Folks. After months of delays, Paramount and J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot surprised virtually everyone by suddenly dropping The Cloverfield Paradox, the third film in the ever-changing Cloverfield franchise, onto Netflix immediately following the Super Bowl. Rumors about a Netflix deal for the film had abounded earlier this year, but no one quite expected Cloverfield 3 to suddenly pop up on the streaming service with little to no warning. While there was a certain thrill in the surprise of the Netflix release, it’s not a plan Paramount intends to implement again. The Wrap confirms that Paramount has every intention of releasing Cloverfield 4, currently titled Overlord, in Theaters. Paramount plans to release Overlord in theater Octobert 26, 2018. Future Cloverfield sequels are intended for theatrical release as well. Per The Wrap, “The deal between Netflix and Paramount for The Cloverfield Paradox was a one-off ‘that makes the film immediately profitable.'” The Cloverfiled Paradox underwent did extensive reshoots, but rumor has it Paramount and Bad Robot could never get the film to where they wanted it to be.

The hotly anticipated feature-length follow-up to one of the biggest cult short film of recent years has lined up an Oscar-nominated star. Michael Fassbender has been cast in David Sandberg's action-comedy Kung Fury, which Sandberg will also star in and produce under his Laser Unicorns banner, alongside Fassbender. David Hasselhoff, who appeared in the original Kung Fury and sang the theme song "True Survivor," will also join the cast. Released in 2015, Kung Fury was a Kickstarter record-breaking success, was selected for the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes and has gained over 40 million views worldwide. The feature, which will be a sequel to the original short, is set to shoot this summer in Europe and the U.S. (Watch the original here.) The action is set in 1985 Miami, which is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. Kung Fury’s Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time itself to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy and defeat evil once and for all. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt will produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner, following their enormous success with It, which grossed over $700 million worldwide to become the biggest-grossing horror film of all time. Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughan will also produce. Pelle Strandberg is executive producing on behalf of Laser Unicorns. Bloom will handle international sales and introduce the film next week to buyers at the Berlin International Film Festival. Endeavor Content and CAA will handle North American sales.
