Betreff: Re: Ravenwood Journal
Vielen Dank.
Zitat:Info. And background on this Project
The biggest challenge of this project has been to try to match up history with the film. There is some
very good information about where the Ark actually is or could possibly be, but it is not down the path
that was followed in the film. In fact the path followed by the film (the Shishak possibility) is considered
undoubtedly wrong by most scholars. So, I have had to muck with some information in order for the film
to be “correct”, and the “true” disappearance of the Ark to be false. In other words, I had to come up with
a reason to discount the information about the Ark being in Axum, and come up with a reason to believe in
the much-discounted possibility that Shishak did indeed take the Ark (which I think I did rather believably,
especially when you consider the line in the scripture that I noticed. I may have actually stumbled onto
something there!).
Another challenge, though not nearly as formidable, was in making sure that the dates of the entries
actually made sense and could have happened in that way. For example, Abner’s trip to France has to
be before WWI (the Great War), yet after the Balkan wars to be believable. (Although the Balkan wars
probably wouldn’t have affected their trip, it might have made them think twice about going to Europe
while they were going on.) This left the window of 1913 for his trip.
Finally, I tried to make the journal fit what was seen in the film and available in the film novelization
and yet leave room for the novels and comics. These are some of the things I had to keep in mind:
1) The journal was given to Indy by Abner while they were still friends.
2) The journal made no mention of the headpiece to the Staff of Ra (but could have mentioned
the Staff).
3) The very last entry briefly mentions Nepal.
4) There had to be a believable reason it was sent to Indy, before their attempt at finding the
headpiece to the Staff (the Dark horse comic) because there is no mention of the headpiece in
the journal.
5) Yet, it had to have information on the Map Room and Well of Souls in order for Indy to use that
info in the Map Room in the film.
All of the recounting of the excavations and trips were taken from real accounts (except of course
for the Tanis digs and anything having to do with the Staff of Ra or the Well of Souls). So, if you go to
the Chartres in France, you should still be able to see the sculptures that are mentioned here. If you go to
Axum, you will see the Guardian of the Ark.
I hope you enjoy this work. It has been very enjoyable to research and to write. If you notice any
glaring discrepancies, especially in the dates of the entries, please let me know.
