India - March 3, 1935 I found it, the temple of Mara! The ruins lie in the midst of a dense jungle in Bengal. Only parts can be seen and they are totally overgrown. I hope the detailed snake statues at what seems to be an entrance are the only ones looking lively. So far I’ve not gotten very deep into the complex, too much debris and jungle plants in here. Marcus promised me to raise some funds for the excavation of the temple and I should contact Sallah to lead the work. He is the best in this job. Maybe some of my students can help with the work here too. The Promise of Mara as written on the walls in the Entry Temple: LOOK NOT INTO THE EYE OF MARA AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL YOUTH EARTHLY RICHES OR FUTURE KNOWLEDGE Sounds pretty nasty, but since when can some scary words withstand the wits of a sciencist and real archeologist? [...] India - January 11, 1936 While we made it out of Pancot and rescued the villagers, Sallah managed to excavate more of the Temple of Mara in Bengal. Unfortunately the project turned out to cost more than Marcus could get from the college’s funds. I aproved their plan to open it to the public and show the site to promising sponsors. I shouldn’t have done this so early. A group led by a distant cousin of Mr. Rockefeller went missing. I warned Sallah to keep an eye on them. There are still unexplored chambers and hidden doors. Now I have to look after this “explorers” and enter parts we haven’t secured yet. India - January 13, 1936 We barely made it out of the temple but at least all survived with almost no bruises. The little Rockefeller wasn’t even scarred and asked me when he can come with me on one of my other adventures. Tourists, why’d it have to be tourists? At least we found several new chambers full with artifacts but also a lot of traps and I am glad that Sallah and the students can now explore them, especially since there are a lot of SNAKES! Our new friend promised to sponsor the excavation and Marcus is really happy about it.
