Hi to all

First up many thanks for your continued kind words and praise.

As those of you who have been following this thread know, we have now reached the stage of painting up the master prototype. I was not entirely satisfied with the weathering and ageing that I had done, so I re-did it! It was too heavy ad looked too old. Although a really nice effect it was not accurate to the movie.

I have taken some shots, unfortunately the light was not great, but they will give you a better idea until I re-shoot them tomorrow in daylight.

Also please see the image of the re-sculpted nose. Following comments from our friends on the Spanish forum, we went back and looked at the screen grabs and there definitely is a pronounced lump in the nose. This first painted mask is a prototype casting so the revision to the nose is not present. However, this revision is being made to the masks run prior to painting. We want the most SA prop out there!

Weathering of gold seems to be a real tough, hard thing to do cause gold (to my knowledge) does not weather much. I honestly think you overdid it a bit. I would expect gold to appear less shiny over the years but not so much of a colourchange. But i admit you have to fullfill expectations*. Dont get me wrong, it was not meant offensive, just my thoughts.

*For Example: There is no Sound in real life when you draw a medieval sword but hollywood made us expect a "ssshhwiiiing" there.

Desshalb sagte ich das ich mich auf die Alterung freue. Altern von Gold erscheint mir richtig schwer und hart zu sein denn Gold (soweit ich das weiß) altert nicht so viel. Ich denke ehrlich, daß du es etwas übertrieben hast. Ich würde erwarten das Gold über die Jahre einfach an Glanz verliert und nicht die Farbe so stark ändert. Aber ich gebe zu das du Erwartungen* erfüllen musst. Versteh mich bitte nicht falsch. Das war nicht als Angriff gemeint, nur meine Gedanken.

*Zum Beispiel: Es macht im richtigen Leben auch kein Geräusch wenn ein mittelalterliches Schwert gezogen wird, Hollywood hat uns aber dazu gebracht, dann ein "ssshhwiiiiing" zu erwarten.

I go with "Indy"Hans...think the aging is way to much. Does "Gold" gets this green-rust/verdigris as cooper do over the time? Never seen that befor.
I think gold will only get darker/less shiny over the years.

Anyway...a great peace of craftsmanship! Congrats...

Ich stimme Hans zu...Die Alterung ist mir zuuuuuu heftig. Setzt Gold über die Jahre auch solchen Grünpsan an, wie es Kupfer macht? Hab ich noch nicht gesehen.
Ich denke eher Gold wird einfach dunkler/wenig hell (matter) mit der Zeit.

Trotzdem...ein großartiges Stück Handswerksarbeit! Glückwunsch...

I think it depends on what you want to achive with the weathering - a Crystal Skull SA reproduction, as far as I remember, would have to have heavy weathering, whereas a real world aged golden mask would show only minor stains. All in all, this looks amazing.

Thats sounds correct, but i think to be SA the "hairs" shouldn't be "open". On screen, this parts looks closed/as structured plate to me. heres a shot

Das hört sich richtig an, aber um SA zu sein, denke ich die Haarpartie dürfte nicht "offen" gestaltet werden. Auf diesem Screenshot (siehe oben) sieht es eher nach einer entsprechend struktutierten "Platte" aus. Glaub nicht das es was mit dem Aufnahmewinkel zu tun hat...hmmm..

Edit: irgendwie geht das mit dem link ned, sorry

Seems to be "open" to me.
Unfortunately in the movie you never get a clear front view of the mask.

Leider sieht man die Maske im Film nicht klar von vorne, aber nach diesem Screenshot sieht die Haarpartie für mich "offen" aus.

Realy? hmm...according to the green-rust-areas, especialy in the left area, up the left ear i would say its "closed".
The background is darker than the mask, so this would be noteable.
But its true...hard to tell from such a screen-grab.

Wirklich? hmm...grad Anhand der Grünspanpartie oberhalb des linken Ohres würde ich sagen das ist eine "Platte".
Der Hintergrund is ja dunkler als die Maske, dass müsste man eigentlich bemerken.
Aber stimmt schon...ist schwer das Aufgrund eine solchen shots zu deuten.

According to the pics shown their "hairs" are "open"!

If they didn't used a different mask in the movie i am wrong.

At long last I am pleased to announce that the Francisco de Orellana Golden Death Mask is available to order.

Those of you who have been following the development thread will by now know that we have been adjusting the nose on the master sculpt to ensure the closest screen accuracy.

The final mask is a resin piece and we have strengthened the hair pieces along the top and sides of the head. There are several processes to the paint and ageing to each mask that take considerable time.

The first run will be 25 masks. A second run of 25 will be available provided that there is demand.

The price per mask is £155 / €175 / $240 which includes PayPal fees.

Shipping costs including insurance are as follows:
UK £7.50
Europe €11.50
Rest of the world $23.50

And the picture itself is wonderfully taken. If it was to be my style i´d love to have one of those masks, but it would not look good in this environment here. Good luck with the selling. I´m sure you´ll find more than enough interested buyers.

Man, totally awesome... I always saw this post, and never notices that the mask in a prop from Indy 4. Peinlicher Smiley

As I watched Indy 4 again, I noticed the mask, and remember this thread...

At the moment Im a little bit tight, but maybe if its not too late the next time, I want to get a mask, too... I will watch this thread carefully and PM you, when I got the money... Hopefully the next weeks...

Hi to all

I joined CoW last August and have made some amazing friends. I have also had the pleasure of collecting many fantastic fan-made replicas offered by the extremely talented artists amongst us. Many of you now have one of our replica masks in your museums, which is thrilling for a relative newbie like myself.

We have sold 17 of the first run of 25, which is great and there are 3 people whom we are waiting on for confirmation/payment. There are 5 masks available to order to complete the first run and if there is demand, we will proceed with a second run.

The final mask is a resin piece, but it is quite weighty and strong. We have strengthened the hair pieces along the top and side edges of the mask. Each mask then goes through an extensive painting process. Finally each mask is aged by hand.

The masks are well packed in an inner box and then an outer box. We also include a pair of white cotton inspection gloves to handle the mask with to protect the gold finish. As an added bonus each mask comes with a special LIFE magazine cover certificate which is individually numbered and personalised.

The price per mask is £155.00 / €175.00 / $240.00 which includes PayPal fees.

Shipping costs including insurance are as follows:
UK £11.50
Europe €16.50
Rest of the world $32.00
