The movie was finished, we all reviewed it together with J.J. and his team. We all decided there were things about it that made us have a pause about its commercial playability in the traditional matter. There was an ability for us to be fiscally prudent and monetize. For fans of Cloverfield, the fact is many, many more millions of people saw the movie. It's a positive on every level.

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially set the Sherlock Holmes 3 release date for December 25, 2020, which is just a week after Avatar 2 is scheduled to open in theaters. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will return as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, respectively. While Guy Ritchie directed the first two films, a director for the third film has not yet been announced. Chris Brancato wrote the script for Sherlock Holmes 3.

Rick Moranis to guest star on The Goldbergs as Dark Helmet. USA Today is reporting that mostly-retired-actor Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters, Honey I shrunk the Kids) will reprise his role of Darth Helmet in an upcoming Season 5 episode of ABC’s The Goldbergs. He’ll reprise the Darth Vader parody from Mel Brooks’ 1986 Star Wars satire Spaceballs in a voice-only role, which series creator Adam F. Goldberg spent weeks trying to secure. “I truly think Rick Moranis gave the most underrated and brilliant comedic performance in any ‘80s movie as Dark Helmet,” Goldberg said in a statement. “I’ve been a lifelong fan of his work and became obsessed with having him reprise the role on my show. As an added bonus, maybe this even gets ‘Spaceballs’ back in the conversation, and I can get my dream of helping make a sequel!” Launched in 2013 and based on Goldberg’s childhood, The Goldbergs stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, George Segal, AJ Michalka and Sam Lerner, with narration by Patton Oswalt. Moranis will reprise the role in Adam’s (Sean Giambrone) dreams as he “encounters Dark Helmet storming his bedroom to battle with the Schwartz.” The episode is set to air tomorrow night in the May 9 episode at 8pm ET/PT.

The Walt Disney Company today announced that it has signed an amended acquisition agreement with 21st Century Fox for $71.3 Billion ($38 per share in cash and stock). Disney will acquire 21st Century Fox immediately following the spin-off of the businesses comprising “New Fox” as previously announced. This news comes after Comcast made an aggressive $65 billion all-cash offer last week for the 21st Century Fox assets, forcing Disney to increase its initial $52.4 billion purchase for the Fox acquisition.

For movie fans, as of now this means that presumed plans to reintegrate characters like Fantastic Four and X-Men (including Deadpool) into Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe remain intact, as does the total acquisition of Fox’s distribution rights to the original 1977 Star Wars for Lucasfilm. Disney will also now control the rights to such current Fox cinematic franchises as Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Kingsman, Ice Age and Night at the Museum. On the TV side some titles they will control include The Simpsons, Family Guy, Legion, American Horror Story, The Orville, NBC’s This Is Us and ABC’s Modern Family. In 2017, Disney’s Buena Vista held a dominant 21.8% of the movie market share, while 20th Century Fox held 12%
