Betreff: Re: Indiana Jones und Gott
Ich zitiere hier mal Joe Johnston (heute Regisseur von u.a. Rocketeer, Jumanji und Jurassic Park 3, damals Visual Effects Art Director bei ILM) nach einem Artikel zum Making Of von Raiders aus Cinefex Nr. 6 von 1981:

"I was asked by George and Steven to come up with some kind of an effect - or at that time, it was really a series of ideas - for the ending of Raiders. George kind of outlined what he thought it should involve, but at that point the script was pretty vague. I think it said something like: The Nazis open the Ark and there's a giant holocaust. Not a lot to go on, but that's the way George works. He likes to give somebody an idea and then see what he'll come up with."
"In the beginning, I planned to have a lot of strange things happening, but I really felt that fire should be the strongest element and so I came up with this cataclysmic kind of effect with melting Nazis and the whole island going up in a giant firestorm that could be seen for a thousand miles around."
"It was interesting, because we all (= die Designer bei ILM) approached the sequence from different points of view. One of the treatments was real subdued. Everything would be kept quite dark and there would be these strange light effects - like rays - that would come out of the Ark and pierce people. Then, once they'd been pierced, the Nazis would just disintegrate and turn into powder. The other one dealt mostly with ghosts. After about six weeks of this, we took all of these storyboards - probably about a hundred and fifty of them - and sorted them out on a table; and finally I was given the job of combining all three into a single sequence. What I did was I'd take a few of my boards and then, when an idea kind of trailed off, I'd stick in somebody else's - the whole idea being to use the best of each and come up with a cohesive sequence combining as many of the different effects as possible."

Zwinkernder Smiley
