Betreff: Re: Indyorama
The beams of their flashlights danced across the old walls of the catacomb, trying their best to cut through the oppressive darkness. Neither Helena, nor Indy had said anything for a while, the only sound came from their own footsteps, as if they didn't dare to disturb the dead. Or maybe they were just trying to conserve energy. At least, if he was honest with himself, Indy did. And even that only helped so much.
Slowly, he stopped, his breath coming hard.
Helena stopped too, looking back at him, a flash of concern in her eyes. "Everything all right?"
He nodded. "Just need a minute... to think."
A grin spread across her face. "Ah. Is that what we're calling it?"
Indy didn't bother answering. He took the map out of his satchel and tried to find out where they were.
Helena smiled wickedly. She lifted the flashlight beneath her chin, casting long, ghostly shadows across her face. "You know what they say about places like this?"
Indy didn't bother looking up. "That they are full of traps?"
"No." She leaned closer and lowered her voice to a low ominous whisper, "That the ghosts always eat the older one first."
"Wombat..."
"Dry Bones. Less chewy."
Without missing a beat, Indy sighed. "I'm seventy-two years old. I've fought Nazis, cultists, grave robbers... even giant snakes." A pause. "And yet, the biggest bane in my life is my goddaughter of all people."
"So...", Helena grinned "you are saying I'm special?"
Indy finally looked at her. "I'm saying if you don't stop doing that with the flashlight, I'm leaving you in this labyrinth. Point it over here instead. I'd like to read this map."
She did as asked, chuckling.
Then, somewhere deep within the darkness ahead...
...something moved with a low, hollow rumble.
Helena's smile vanished. "That... wasn't me."
Indy folded the map and slipped it back into his satchel. "No."
Helena stared into the darkness. "Do you think it is a ghost?"
Indy shrugged as he reached for his revolver. "If it is, I'll make sure it won't eat any of us." He glanced at her. "Not even you. Come on."
