AN EXTRACT FROM "THE NEW COUNTRY"
A teaser from my latest script...
He puts down his scalpel.
DR. GOODMAN (CONT’D)
What of his consciousness? It lives on as we know. He’s still alive, just his body is dead, and he will continue to live... to occupy space and time greedily. To latch onto some newborn hungrily. We must get to them before they die... They must be convinced that to end this tenure, nobly, for the betterment of the rest. Well, if they can be convinced, then problem solved. Such is the duty of a doctor.

WHY I WANT TO SHOOT MY NEXT MOVIE OVER AS LONG A PERIOD AS POSSIBLE...
There are some famous movies which took years to make. The longest I've ever had to shoot something was I, ROBOT which took just over five months, with multiple units working.
This is not my ideal way to work, as I like to shoot as much as possible myself. I remember nearly killing myself through lack of sleep on DARK CITY because I would work all day on main unit, then work all through the night directing second unit, with a touch of shut-eye in my trailer between set-ups.
I admire Kubrick as he somehow managed to keep his crews small enough so he could stretch the days. Time to think on the set, and make necessary changes... a God send. I hope I can manage this on THE NEW COUNTRY.
Mind you, when you're shooting a four hour long movie, or a "limited series", or whatever the hell it is I've just written, all bets are off.
