What I find annoying is that Robby implies that top whipmakers are deliberately misleading their customers to make more money. And I would really like to know which whipmakers he thinks are BRAIDING with cowhide and putting a roohide overlay on top. It certainly isn't David Morgan, Joe Strain, Bernardo, Paul Nolan or me. So who is it?
Of course a customer should ask questions - but Robby is implying that these top whipmakers are not worth what they are charging and I disagree strongly. He also suggests that using roohide for bolster layers makes for a more supperior whip - again I disagree. He also suggests that 400euros is only justified by using roohide for bolster layers. I disagree. If I used roohide for my bolsters, which I won't, it would put the price of my whip up by maybe 20euros and not more.
Just to be clear - I have nothing against the products Robby is promoting, I wish him every success with them. I just don't want misinformation to be spread regarding other top quality whips. And by this, I don't mean my own whips. I have deliberately reduced the number of customers that I accept so I am not looking to promote my own work. I don't want people to be worried about ordering from the whipmakers I have mentioned. They make excellent whips at a fair price. If Robby can offer a better price, well fair play to him.
