Betreff: Re: Neue Indy Whip in 2010
Zitat von Robby:
Ich hab's schon mal geschrieben und ich tu's wieder... Fragt genau nach, aus was eine Peitsche gefertigt ist, bevor ihr
einen Haufen Geld ausgebt. Es wird so oft geschrieben "Made from finest Roohide" oder "Made from 1st grade Roohide"
What a load of rubbish! By all means offer a budget whip but please - your self professed whip expertise doesn't wash when you peddle such ignorant comments. Just who do you suppose makes cheap cowhide whips with roohide overlays for 400 Euros? Names please - because I sure don't know anyone!
You've made your comments about 100% roohide before. You want to offer an all roohide whip, fine. The only cowhide used in a reputable Indy whip is for the two bolster layers between the braided bellies. And as I've said before, for these layers cowhide actually is more suitable than roohide as it has the advantage of length - meaning that fewer pieces have to be spliced together.
Roohide is used for all braiding within the whip because it can be braided much tighter than cowhide due to it's strength. That's the whole reason for using roohide in the first place - and not because it's a more expensive luxury leather. Using roohide for bolsters makes no sense - the leather must be cut in straight lengths (you will know this as an expert) otherwise it will spiral and effect the whip's ability to roll out straight - the average size of roohides means that several sections have to be spliced togther, effectively creating more weaker spots than in a continuous bolster.
Whips that are advertised as roohide whips - refer to the braiding. Or should they be described as made of roohide, cowhide, steel, lead, fat, wax, thread, sinew, soap, alcohol and shellac? Bit of a mouthful really.
Really - good luck with your new line of whips but stop trying to make out that other decent whipmakers are dishonest! Most of them know a damn sight more about what they are doing, and why, than you do!
